“The LORD Jesus Christ”

“Jesus” means Savior.

“Christ” means Anointed One.

“LORD” means exactly that – He is our Sovereign LORD and Ruler.

He is our Anointed Savior and LORD. (Dwell on that for a while.)

One of my favorite Bible teacher’s is Harold Willmington. He has written a number of books. The one in front of me right now is, “Willmington’s Complete Guide to Bible Knowledge”. This volume is on the ‘Life of Christ.’

“How Do You See Yourself As A Christ-follower?”

I know no better place to go than the book of Romans to explore our subject. We are quite sure that Paul had not been to Rome when he wrote this letter. It seems apparent that he had a number of friends there. It is likely that he met some of the church members in other places in his travels. Aquila and Priscilla were some of his dearest friends and it seems likely that the church in Rome was founded by them. Even at that, it seemed that the church had experienced a lot of his spiritual influences.

In verses nine and ten of chapter one, we see how he felt about them and longed to see them –

“How Do the teachings of Jesus Stack up with the Religions of the World?”

Do all of the religions teach basically the same thing?

Did any of the other religious leaders make claims that were similar to Christ’s?

This may surprise you that we have no historical data where any of the founders of the world’s major religions

– apart from Jesus; no one ever claimed to be God. That is a huge fact. Jesus on numerous occasions said that

He was God and/or equal to God. John 10:30, “I and the Father are one.”

“Christ the Living Stone”

Have you ever been called a “stone”? We don’t normally think of stones as being alive. Our friend, the Apostle Peter, referred to Jesus as “a living stone.”

In 1 Peter 2:4-5, we read:

“Coming to Him, a living stone – rejected by men, but chosen and valuable to God – you  yourselves, as living stones, are being built into a spiritual house for a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”

Peter referring to Christ as a “Living Stone” is paradoxical because stones aren’t alive.

“Real Success”

Recently I was reading a commentary on the book of Jeremiah and a certain passage caught my attention. As I read it and re-read it, several times it really gripped me, so I prepared it as a meditation to be used in our vesper services.

This morning, I woke up much earlier than I wanted to and felt the Holy Spirit prompting me to re-work it for our Jubilee Newsletter, so here it goes. The passage has to do with success. We love success stories. Remember the TV series of years past, “The Rich and the Famous”?

How do we view success? What are some of the benchmarks of success?
