“Our Adversary II”

We are continuing our study regarding our adversary, the devil. We are looking at names or titles by which he is identified in the scriptures.

1. He is called, by Jesus, a Murderer.
In John 8:44, Jesus said, “You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him.”
In John 8:37-38 Jesus said, “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.”

Our Adversary”
Part I

In 1 John 2:1-3 we read, “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”

Remember these words — “We have an Advocate … Jesus Christ the righteous. “Remind yourself often of this truth. The reason is that we also have an adversary. Our Advocate is for us. Satan, our adversary is against us and will do everything he can to sabotage our lives.

In 1 Peter 5:8 we read, “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walked about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
He is referred to in the Scriptures by a number of names.

“Things New”

In many ways 2018 was a blur. We praise God for His faithfulness to us and Jubilee. Thank you for your friendship, fellowship and prayers. We love you and are so grateful for all the ways you support us.

I believe 2019 will be our best year yet, as we follow our Shepherd Savior, Jesus. Recently, I received a copy of Steve Epperson, Jr.’s book, “First Words of Jesus”. It is a very meaningful read. He takes us to the temple where Jesus’ parents found Him at age twelve, interacting with the religious leaders and officials. The family had gone to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover.
