The Privilege of Prayer

Over the years the LORD has blessed me in many special ways. One of my great joys is to reflect on the ways He has led me, protected me, provided for me, taught me, used me, etc., etc.

Do you know what my greatest joy is? It is the privilege of prayer. Any time I want I have the privilege of calling on my God, the Creator of heaven and earth. In Jeremiah 33:3 He gives me this invitation – “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

I have never been invited to talk with one of our Presidents. The Queen has never invited me over for tea and crumpets. But the King of Heaven says “Come on and talk to me and I will answer you.” I never have to worry about being led astray, deceived, mocked, or betrayed. Prayer is such a privilege!

Advent #4, – “Hope for all Mankind”

In this fourth and final advent meditation, I want to share with you the fact that Christ’s birth in Bethlehem would offer hope to all the world.

We see that in a very familiar verse of scripture — John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.”

I am particularly intrigued by the fact, that the most important news the world would ever receive was first given to a group of lowly shepherds.

“The Symbolism of Christmas”
Advent #3

I suppose that to many of us there are many things that speak to us about Christmas. However, to me personally, there is one symbol that brings Christmas close to me and that is ‘The Advent Wreath’. If you do the research on this tradition, you will get a broad perspective on its history and meaning. You can check that out for yourself. In this meditation, I want to focus on the significance of the wreath and what it means to me as an evangelical Christian.

“Reflecting on Advent”
#2 in Series
“Preparing”

We frequently refer to the Christmas season. We could just as easily refer to the advent season.

As we mentioned previously, advent means “coming” and previously we referred to Christ’s first advent when He came as God incarnate (in the flesh) to seek and save the lost. Advent is a time when we look back to His first coming but we also look forward to the day when He will come again. What a day that will be!

Traditionally, advent begins on the Sunday closest to November 30th. It includes the four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas eve.
